Navigate CHSP with Confidence

The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) helps older Australians stay independent at home by providing entry-level support services. Under the new Aged Care Act, CHSP will continue until 30 June 2027, but new eligibility and contribution rules apply. Here’s what you need to know about funding, costs, and your rights.

What You Need to Know

My Aged Care (MAC) will assess your needs or those of your loved one and connect you with an approved home care provider of your choice. Under the Aged Care Act 2024, funding is provided directly to providers to cover your in-home care services, up to approximately $8,000 per year, depending on your assessed needs.

From 1 November 2025, all clients must be registered with My Aged Care and have a current aged care assessment to continue receiving services.

Note: Funding amounts vary based on your individual circumstances and service level.

CHSP services remain not means-tested, but you’ll be asked to make a small contribution toward the cost of your services, based on your financial situation. This is outlined in our Client Contribution Schedule.

Under the new legislation, a lifetime cap of $130,000 on non-clinical service contributions will apply, with daily limits for certain services. Financial assistance, including monthly caps, may also be available.

The government covers most of the hourly rate for CHSP home care services. You’ll only pay the out-of-pocket costs listed in our Client Contribution Schedule.

Important: CHSP will continue until 30 June 2027, but all clients must meet new eligibility rules under the Aged Care Act (e.g., aged 65+, or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people).

Rights-Based Care: Older people now have enforceable rights, including dignity, autonomy, and choice.

Support at Home Program: From 1 November 2025, this program replaces Home Care Packages and offers improved in-home care options. CHSP will merge into Support at Home no earlier than July 2027.

Single Assessment System: Faster, streamlined assessments for all aged care services.

Stronger Quality Standards: Providers must meet enhanced governance and compliance obligations.

To continue receiving CHSP services after 1 November 2025, you must:
